FIRST UNITED CHURCH Community Ministry Society (FIRST UNITED) is seeking an Interim Executive Director to serve for a three-year term while our current Executive Director fulfills her role as Moderator of the United Church of Canada. The Interim Executive Director’s term starts August 8, or as soon as possible after that.

We are seeking an individual with senior management experience who will be able to provide visionary leadership for an organization undergoing significant change. In this position, it is essential that the incumbent demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate the vision, mission, and needs of the ministry in church, governmental, and community contexts.

FIRST UNITED is currently involved in a major redevelopment project while, at the same time, continuing to provide programs of support, advocacy, and spiritual care in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood of Vancouver. The ability to navigate these diverse agendas and to provide leadership to a large staff are essential components of the Interim Executive Director’s job.

The Interim Executive Director reports to the policy governance Board of Directors, advises the Board, and attends bi-monthly and ad hoc Board meetings. Experience with working with such a Board is desirable.
