An Easter greeting from our Acting Executive Director, Amanda Burrows
I hope you and your family are enjoying an Easter full of rest, love and reflection.
Two weeks ago, I stepped into the role of Acting Executive Director as Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne started her sabbatical. It is an immense honour and privilege to guide First United over the coming months.
I speak with you, our supporters, every day, and I know how much this organization and our work means to you. More importantly – I have come to know how much of a positive impact our daily essential services make in the community.
We have always been on the frontlines responding to the needs of Downtown Eastside residents, in an environment facing the intersecting challenges of homelessness, mental wellness, and personal and historical trauma. Yet, as every person’s journey is unique, and we adapt how we can walk alongside each other, what never changes is the strength of spirit in our community members.
As some of us rejoice and celebrate rebirth this Easter, I ask you: are we collectively able to answer the call of compassion, justice and advocacy, so we can create a neighborhood where every person’s worth is celebrated, and all people thrive?
I believe the answer is yes.
To keep answering the call, please make a donation towards our target.
Today also happens to be my birthday, and to follow tradition, I wouldn’t dare let you in on what I will wish for as I blow out the candles. I have a hunch you may have a pretty good idea though.
Easter blessings and all of my gratitude to you for being a part of our community.
